Well its been an interesting year of pigs for us so far this year. We started off with a batch of 7 runts. 2 of them were sickly and didn't make it. 1 had an umbilical hernia that would have become an issue as the pig got bigger- he became a nice roasted neighborhood get together. So we were down a few piggies. We bought 2 more healthy (not runt) brown and black speckled piglets (our first not-white pigs!) and got 2 more little tiny runt runt pigs that are a little behind in size but we hope they catch up and make nice pork by January.

The bigger batch of pigs have been rooting up weedy barn lots and I've been seeding the areas with a fun seed mix of brassicas, okra, millet, beans and sunflowers. The pigs will get to enjoy this delicious variety garden in a few weeks.

Other than weeds and mixed greens the pigs are enjoying a healthy amount of spent brewers grains as a significant portion of their diet along with fallen apples.
